During the winter break, the Zsolnay Cultural Quarter welcomes Pécs residents and visitors to the city as a true experience space. Exhibitions, light installations, interactive programs, creative activities, and family discounts ensure that there is something to do even on cold days.
The Zsolnay Quarter is open to everyone during the winter break, except on December 24, 25, 26, and January 1. The permanent exhibitions, which are open to visitors all year round, offer a rich program during the winter months as well: they can see the special pieces of the Zsolnay Golden Age – Gyugyi Collection, the exhibition on the history of the Zsolnay family and factory, the Pink Zsolnay exhibition, the Visual Manufactory, and the Zsolnay Mausoleum.
A special ticket offer is available for families in December: ticket packages are valid for 5 people instead of 4.
The tickets are valid for a maximum of two adults and three children between the ages of 6 and 18, and can be used over two days. The offer is available between December 1, 2025, and January 4, 2026, for the Zsolnay, Heritage, World Heritage, and Time Traveler family ticket packages.
After dark, the Winter Light Garden comes to life, where magical light installations, light tunnels, gates, fairy-tale creatures, and forest animals transport visitors into a world of imagination. During the day, themed guided tours help visitors delve deeper into the Zsolnay heritage.
Visitors can take part in a discovery walk through the Zsolnay Golden Age – Gyugyi Collection, as well as festive programs such as Christmas with the Zsolnays, where guides dressed in period costumes provide commentary.
The Secrets of the Zsolnay Mausoleum on the Winter Solstice tour offers a special experience, where visitors can observe the meeting of sunlight and eosin paint, as well as the In the Footsteps of the Zsolnays walk in the family’s former home.
Science also comes to life in a playful way in the Zsolnay Quarter. The Quarter is home to the country’s only planetarium, where live presentations are given exclusively by astronomers. In the VR Universe, visitors can venture from the International Space Station to the depths of the sea, while the Magic Hour brings science closer with spectacular physical experiments. The Laboratory – Interactive Magic Space offers physical games, an airplane simulator, and a laser course for those interested.
During the winter break, there are also numerous creative programs for visitors: Christmas ceramic painting, mandala making, tile folding, macramé workshops, and museum education activities.
The m21 Gallery’s winter program includes two major exhibitions: The Response of Matter – Sándor Kecskeméti’s exhibition presents one of the defining oeuvres of Hungarian contemporary sculpture, while Design Icons – Yesterday and Today draws attention to the border areas of design and fine arts.
